Classes do not have to be taken in order.
Since there is a minimum number and maximum number of students for each class, I suggest signing up as soon as you can. Some classes are held only once a year.
Survival 1
This course is designed to give the student confidence in the woods by understanding natural hazards and knowing what to do in emergency situations. The following topics are addressed: “How to prepare for an outdoor activity”, “What to do when lost”, “The survival mentality”, “Natural hazards and risk management”, “Preventing injuries and treatment”, “Camp site selection”, “How to build a natural shelter”, “Finding water”, “Water collection and purification”, “Outdoor hygiene”, “How to make a fire using modern methods”, “Fire building materials in the southeastern woods”, “Modern survival kits”, “Essential knots”. Class is from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Minimum age is 12 yrs old.
Survival 2
Some of the things we will learn are how to make cord from bark, making fishing line from a leaf, how to make traps, fishing methods, useful knots and where to use them, fire lays, how to clean and cook a fish and how to preserve meats and fruits. Class time is from 9:00am to 4:00pm. 12 yrs old is the minimum age. Class size limited to 8 Students.
Survival 3
This class will teach the student how to make fires with primitive methods which includes friction fire making with the bow drill, and hand drill. Flint and steel demo. I will teach what types of woods can be found and used in Georgia and will give individual attention to each student in making a friction fire. We will practice making friction fires as a team and individually. Each student will receive a bow drill kit to take home. The class is from 9:00am- 4:00. Minimum age is 14 yrs old. Class size limited to 8.
Survival 4
This class covers “Tree and plant identification”, “wood choices for Bows and arrows”, “More trap making”, “Gathering food”, “Making Collection and storage containers”, “Uses for plants and trees around the camp”, “making tools”, “glue”, “Soap”, “Plants for personal hygiene”. Will be a discussion and demonstration as we walk through the woods looking at different plants. The time is from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Minimum age is 12 yrs old.
Survival 5
This course teaches the student how to cook with only natural materials to include: “Cooking on a spit”, “Baking in the coals”, “Frying and baking on rocks”, “Sweet gum grilling basket”, “Making a clay oven”, “Stone and wooden bowls”, “Fire lays for cooking”, “The green wood grill”, “Rock boiling”. The emphasis is on cooking and the food is provided. The time is from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Minimum age is 14 yrs old.
Survival 6
Preparedness and sustainability. This class covers how to plan, prepare and practice for economic and natural disaster and for this reason may be the most practical survival class. Topics include “Positive Mental Attitude”, “Food Preparation and Storage” including canning, “Sustainable Resources” with a demo of raising chickens, “How To Clean A Chicken”, “Growing Your Food- with Aquaponics demo”, “Practical Ways To Prepare For Power Outages” including solar and wood gasification, “Water Storage and Purification”, “Helping Others In A Crisis”. The time is from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Minimum age is 14 yrs old.
Private Lessons for individuals and groups.
I can customize a class for the group that includes a combination of some of the above topics. Some demonstrations could include making a fire with a bow drill and hand drill. I can also travel to your location. Contact me for a more accurate quote.
