"Survival Basics Class"

This course is designed to give the student confidence in the woods by understanding natural hazards and knowing what to do in emergency situations. The following topics are addressed: "What to do when lost", "The survival mentality", "Natural hazards and risk management", "Preventing injuries and treatment", "Camp site selection", "Natural shelters", "Water collection and purification", "Outdoor hygiene", "Modern survival kits". The location will be the Mountain Hill Baptist Church outdoor classroom. The time is from 9:00am to 4:00pm. "Preparedness and Sustainability"
This class covers how to plan, prepare and practice for man made (economic collapse) and natural disaster. Topics include "Positive Mental Attitude", "Food Preparation and Storage" including canning, "Sustainable Resources" with a demo with chickens and rabbits, "How To Clean A Chicken / Rabbit", "Growing Your Food", "Practical Ways To Prepare For Power Outages", "Water Storage and Purification", "What You Can Use From The Woods", "Survival Trapping And Fishing", "Helping Others In A Crisis". The more people you sign up, the lower the cost for your group. The location will be the Mountain Hill Baptist Church outdoor classroom. The time is from 9:00am to 4:00pm. "Primitive Fire Making Class"




This class will teach the student how to make fires with primitive methods which includes friction fire making with the bow drill, pump drill, hand drill, flint and steel and the fire piston. I will teach what types of woods can be found and used in Georgia and will give Individual attention to each student in making a friction fire. We will make friction fires as a team and individually. Each student will receive a bow drill kit to take home. The location will be the Mountain Hill Baptist Church outdoor classroom. The time is from 9:00am to 4:00pm. "Trees-Plants- And How To Use Them"
This class is from 9:00am to 12:00pm and will focus on gathering food from plants and trees and useful things you can make.

Time permitting I will talk about "Plants for personal hygiene".
Note: This class may be full. Check back closer to time for vacancy. Cost $30.
     
"Beyond the Basics Class"
This course goes beyond the basics to cover "Fire making methods", "Fire making 'Outside the box'", "Knots and where to use them", "Signaling", "Maps", "Compass" and "Navigation"

"Primitive Cooking Class"


This course teaches how to cook without pots or skillets using natural materials. Topics include: "Cooking on a spit", "Making a clay oven", "Baking in the coals", "Frying and baking on rocks", "Sweet gum grilling baskets", "Fire lays for cooking", "The green wood grill", "Rock boiling" and "Steaming". Student will receive a notebook of class notes and lunch!

"Cordage Class"

This course teaches the various uses of string and cord in the woods and how to make cord from natural materials. The topics covered are "Cordage material selection", "Cordage fibers from trees", "Cordage from plants", "How to make cord", "Knots for natural fibers", "Making fishing line and hooks". "5 knots you need to know". Note: This is a shorter class and is from 9:00am to 2:00pm

"Private Lessons- Adults"

Private lessons can be on any of the above listed topics. Call for a specific quote. The class is structured for personalized training. If the class is a "Primitive Cooking" class then add the "Class supplies fee" of $10 per person to your cart using the drop box to the right. These are the prices if local to Hamilton, GA. If you would like me to come to your location, contact me for a more accurate quote.

For groups over 10 students. I will provide an overview of outdoor skills that includes a combination of some of the above topics. The format is more demonstration of skills rather than personalized attention. Some demonstrations include making a fire with a bow drill and hand drill, making cordage from leaves and bark, and making wooden bowls and stone bowls. If you would like for me to travel to your location, if over 50 miles from Hwy 219 Hamilton, GA 3181.  For a rough estimate, I figure my mileage at .50 cents per mile and $10 and hour round trip.  If over 3 hours add $100 for lodging.  Contact me for a more accurate quote.
